WARDROBE GUIDE
StartOUR BEST TIPS
FIT
Fitted clothes that show your shape work best. This applies to any body type. Outfits should hug your curves, especially along your top half. (Loose, flowing skirts, or wide leg pants are fabulous as long as your bodice or top is snug.) Skip low cut tops and always choose tailored pieces over loose or boxy. Also skip anything that is uncomfortable or prevents free movement.
arms
Love your arms? Show them off with a strapless dress or sleeveless top. Hate your arms? Pass on anything with cap sleeves, which emphasize the widest part of the arm. Either way, bring (at least) one outfit with long sleeves.
UNDERWEAR
Consider the underwear you’ll need for each outfit (i.e. a strapless bra or nude thong). Pair a black bra with dark clothing, and stick with nude bras under light-colored clothes. We always recommend shapewear as it conceals problem areas, removes panty lines and flatters the body. Spanx and Honeylove are a great brands to try.
SOLIDS
Solids always photograph better than patterns. Avoid stripes, plaids and florals as these can look very fashion’y and will take the focus away from your face. If you want to make your headshots interesting without using patterns and big jewelry, layer your clothing instead.
wrinkle-free
Please arrive to your session with all garments freshly-pressed and wrinkle-free. Otherwise this will cut into your session time.
colors
Choose colors that complement your hair and skin tone. Take color theory into consideration (i.e blue is typically friendly and red is assertive). What message do you want to convey using color? Not sure which colors look best on you? Look at old photos or ask people you trust. Chek out our color combinations below to add harmony into your wardrobe.

JEWELRY
Keep it simple
Simple, classic pieces work best. Think studs, small hoops and pearls. Simple gold or silver bracelets can also add a pop of style and visual interest without overwhelming.
Sentiment or fashion
Sentimental pieces are always a fun addition and bring meaning to your images. Just make sure they aren’t the star of the show.
We also have a studio jewelry collection that you are welcome to wear during your session.
